EARLY POST~!

I'm posting this early as a way to express my gratitude and appreciation to all those who have supported this project beyond my expectations. ;A; Several of the cards and/or this project has been featured in dA news and personal accounts and I'm simply blown away by those of you who always take the time to comment and/or :+fav: these cards. It means so much to me!

In addition to posting early, I also Livestreamed me working on this card, and if you happened to miss it and would like to see, they are up on my LS account, though I made a sped up version for YouTube over here~

In any case! THANK YOU GUYS! ;A;

The eleventh card in the major arcana is The Wheel of Fate, no. 10.

I chose The Norns (Urd, Verdandi and Skuld) for the Wheel of Fate because they are the seers/keepers/weavers of fate.

They live on the Asgard plane, though in a section that can only be accessed through an offshoot of Bifrost, which is guarded by Heimdall. And the path is so fragile that no weapons are allowed to be on it for it would break otherwise.

The Norns are sisters; a youngster, a maiden, and an elder. Urd looks to the past, Skuld looks to the opposite direction toward the future, and Verdandi looks straightforward at the present.

For their appearances, aside from their age-look, I wanted to make them look somewhat similar while keeping them different (very difficult!) because it is my personal belief that they are not sisters, but the same person at different stages in her life. Thus, one is young with light hair, kissed by too many days in the sun, and vibrant clothes of a youthful color. Another is one with darker hair befitting one who has left the sun to do the duties needed inside with clothes of an appealing color that is not too bright or too muted. Lastly, one is old, with all color gone from her hair and her clothes of a soft, muted color.

Here, I have also included the threads they are to be weaving. Unlike in Greek or Roman mythology, I did not get the impression that The Norns controlled a person's destiny, but rather weave what is given to them and watch or hold the fate... "safe"? Like recorders, of a sort. It's difficult to explain. XD;;; Basically, it is up to the person to change their fate.

The card itself is made of ash wood. The darker ash for the main body of the card is an overlaid stain. The character is painted on parchment. Everything was done in PS. (Check my :+fav:s for the resources.)

For more cards in this set, check this gallery.

The next card will be released October 9th.
